Clay Co., MO (March 3, 2025) – A collision involving three vehicles occurred on March 3 at Interstate 35 at Missouri 291 around 5:15 p.m., leading to injuries and vehicle damage.

Authorities reported that a 2010 Chrysler, driven by a 35-year-old man from Lawson, Missouri, attempted to overtake another vehicle in slow-moving traffic. The Chrysler rear-ended a 2017 Ford, driven by a 36-year-old woman from Rayville, Missouri, which then collided with a 2020 Jeep. The Jeep, driven by a 66-year-old woman from Cameron, Missouri, sustained only minor damage and was able to leave the scene under its own power.

The crash resulted in injuries to two juvenile passengers in the Ford. A 12-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, both from Kansas City, Missouri, suffered minor injuries. They were taken to Liberty Hospital by private vehicle for medical evaluation.

The Chrysler was heavily damaged and had to be towed by Integrity Tow, while the Ford sustained moderate damage and was towed by R & L Shoemaker Tow. The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Trooper M. Gallo Mejia.

We hope the injured children recover quickly.

Car Accidents in Missouri

Clay Co., MO – Two Hurt in Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-35Missouri experiences thousands of car accidents each year, with many resulting in injuries. According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, more than 50,000 people suffer injuries in traffic crashes annually. Highways and interstates, particularly in areas with heavy congestion, are common locations for these accidents.

Traffic congestion increases the risk of rear-end collisions like the one in this crash. Here are some common factors contributing to such accidents:

  • Following Too Closely – Tailgating is a leading cause of rear-end crashes. Drivers who follow too closely don’t have enough time to react if traffic suddenly slows.
  • Distracted Driving – Looking at a phone, adjusting the radio, or talking to passengers can delay a driver’s reaction time, making rear-end collisions more likely.
  • Sudden Braking – When traffic is congested, unexpected stops are common. Drivers who aren’t prepared may not be able to stop in time.
  • Speeding in Heavy Traffic – Even small speed increases in stop-and-go traffic can make it difficult to avoid a collision if another vehicle suddenly slows down.
