Lafayette Co., MO – Two Injured in Crash on I-70 WB

Lafayette Co., MO (February 5, 2025) – A collision involving a semi-truck and an SUV on Interstate 70 left two people injured Monday evening, February 3.

According to reports, the crash happened around 7:55 p.m. near mile marker 40.4 on westbound I-70. Authorities say a 2022 Freightliner, driven by a 69-year-old man from Belleville, Illinois, veered off the left side of the road and struck a median cable barrier. After hitting the barrier, the truck re-entered the eastbound lanes, where it collided with a 2009 Ford Explorer. The Explorer, driven by a 44-year-old man from Mayview, Missouri, sustained total damage and had to be towed from the scene.

Emergency responders arrived to assist the injured. The driver of the Explorer, along with an 11-year-old female passenger, both suffered minor injuries. They were transported by private vehicle to Centerpoint Hospital for treatment. The truck driver was not reported to have injuries. The Missouri State Highway Patrol was on the scene, with assistance from multiple officers. Truck Accidents in Missouri

Lafayette Co., MO – Two Injured in Crash on I-70 WBMissouri sees a significant number of truck accidents each year, with many leading to injuries and major roadway disruptions. According to data from the Missouri Department of Transportation, thousands of crashes involving large commercial vehicles occur annually. Due to their size and weight, collisions involving semi-trucks often have more severe outcomes compared to passenger vehicle accidents.

Understanding how truck accidents happen is important for drivers. Here are some of the most common causes:

  • Driver Fatigue – Truck drivers often work long hours, increasing the risk of drowsy driving. Fatigue can slow reaction times and lead to critical errors on the road.
  • Improper Lane Changes – Large trucks have significant blind spots, and sudden lane shifts can cause collisions with vehicles in their path.
  • Mechanical Failures – Brake failures, tire blowouts, and engine problems can make it difficult for truckers to control their vehicles, especially at high speeds.
  • Adverse Weather Conditions – Rain, ice, and snow make it harder for truck drivers to stop quickly, increasing the risk of jackknife accidents or skidding.
  • Speeding and Reckless Driving – Excessive speed makes it harder for trucks to stop in an emergency, leading to more severe crashes.

When accidents like this happen, victims should seek legal guidance to understand their rights. If you were hurt in a truck crash, it’s important to speak with a Lafayette County truck accident attorney as soon as possible. Trucking companies and insurers often conduct their investigations quickly, making it critical for victims to have legal representation early on. An attorney can help gather evidence, negotiate with insurance companies, and ensure you receive fair compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages.
