According to reports, a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by a 65-year-old man from Orrick, MO, was traveling westbound when it crossed the center of the roadway. He was transported by Ray County EMS to Liberty Hospital for medical care. The driver of the Chevrolet Cruze was not reported injured. Car Accidents in Missouri

Ray Co., MO – Two-Vehicle Crash on MO-10 Near Todd Chapel RdCar accidents are an unfortunate reality on Missouri’s roadways. In a recent year, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported over 150,000 crashes statewide, with thousands resulting in injuries. Many of these incidents occur due to distracted driving, speeding, or failing to yield, all of which can have serious consequences.

One critical factor in preventing serious injuries is the use of safety devices such as seat belts. Here are some key facts about seat belt safety:

  • Effectiveness in Reducing Injuries – Studies show that wearing a seat belt reduces the risk of fatal injury by 45% for front-seat passengers in cars and up to 60% in light trucks. This simple measure can mean the difference between minor injuries and life-threatening harm.
  • Missouri’s Seat Belt Law – While Missouri law mandates seat belt use for drivers and front-seat passengers, many still choose not to wear them. Law enforcement continues to stress the importance of buckling up every trip.
  • Common Misconceptions – Some drivers believe airbags alone will protect them, but seat belts work in conjunction with airbags to provide the best possible safety outcome. Airbags alone are not designed to prevent ejections in a crash.
  • Unrestrained Passenger Risks – Passengers who do not wear seat belts put themselves and others in the vehicle at greater risk. In a crash, an unbuckled occupant can be thrown into other passengers, causing additional injuries.
