Saline Co., MO – Multi-Vehicle Collision on I-70 Leaves Two Injured

Saline Co., MO (February 4, 2025) – A crash involving four vehicles disrupted traffic on Interstate 70 eastbound at mile marker 75.8 early Monday morning, February 3. Authorities responded to the accident at around 9:47 a.m.

Investigators determined that a westbound 2023 Freightliner Cascadia, driven by a 31-year-old man from Greenville, Ohio, crossed the median cables into oncoming traffic. The truck struck two eastbound vehicles: a 2013 RAM 3500 driven by a 22-year-old man from Sweet Springs, Missouri, and another 2023 Freightliner Cascadia operated by a 56-year-old man from Des Moines, Iowa. Additionally, debris from the crash damaged a 2024 Ford F-150 driven by a 34-year-old man from Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

Emergency medical teams transported the 31-year-old Freightliner driver to Fitzgibbon Hospital with moderate injuries. The 56-year-old driver of the second Freightliner sustained minor injuries and was also taken to Fitzgibbon Hospital for treatment. The remaining drivers were not reported injured.

Authorities remained on the scene for an extended period, working to clear debris and investigate the cause of the crash. Don’s Truck Towing and Truck Wash in Sedalia removed both damaged Freightliners, while the RAM and Ford were driven from the scene.

We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.

Truck Accidents in Missouri

Saline Co., MO – Multi-Vehicle Collision on I-70 Leaves Two InjuredMissouri’s highways see thousands of truck-related accidents annually. According to state data, large truck crashes are a major contributor to traffic-related injuries and fatalities. In recent years, Missouri has averaged over 100 fatal truck accidents per year, with many more resulting in injuries. The size and weight of commercial trucks often make these crashes particularly dangerous, especially when they involve smaller vehicles.

Understanding why truck accidents happen can help prevent future collisions. Below are some common factors contributing to these incidents:

  • Driver Fatigue – Long hours on the road can cause truck drivers to become drowsy, slowing their reaction times and increasing the risk of accidents. Federal regulations limit driving hours, but violations still occur.
  • Mechanical Failures – Poor truck maintenance can lead to brake failures, tire blowouts, or steering issues. Regular inspections and repairs are essential to keep trucks safe.
  • Weather Conditions – Rain, snow, and fog can make highways treacherous, especially for large trucks that require more time to stop. Reduced visibility and slick roads contribute to many crashes.
  • Improper Lane Changes – Large trucks have significant blind spots. When truck drivers fail to check their surroundings carefully, they may collide with vehicles in adjacent lanes.
  • Speeding and Reckless Driving – Due to their size, trucks take longer to stop. When truck drivers exceed speed limits or drive aggressively, the risk of a serious crash increases.
